DSN 5TH Edition Theme: how to feed the world without destroying the planet?!

October 11 - 6:00 pm - 9:30 pm

The transition from animal to plant-based protein is well known in the Netherlands and picking up speed. However, we also see high levels of civic resistance to changing diets, which leaves us to wonder: is it enough? A new wave of biobased startups based around Delft is looking at utilising the properties of animal cells and microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi and helpful viruses. They are innovating by combining new technologies and understanding biological systems to build nutritious foods that use fewer resources, generate less pollution, and even lead to a net reduction in atmospheric carbon dioxide.

The Delft Centre for Entrepreneurship (DCE) and YES!Delft Students, in collaboration with Planet B.io present Delft Startup Night 5: The biotech alternative proteins revolution!

This time, we have invited an exceptional panel:

  • Edgar Suarez Garcia co-founder of FUMI Ingredients. It has created a chickenless egg replacement made by natural microorganisms
  • Daan Luining co-founder of Meatable. It pioneers real delicious meat without harming animals or other nasty facts industrial farming relies on
  • Maria C. Cuellar Science and Technology Officer at Planet B.io, a non-profit organisation supporting biotech startups and scale-ups in industrial biotechnology

The panel chair will be DCE’s Fátima Delgado leading the conversation. It is the perfect moment for students to learn more about startups and scale-ups, network with alumni entrepreneurs, and find internships at fascinating young companies.
