Delft and the Westland region are again recognized as leading entrepreneurial ecosystems, with strong startup growth driven by collaboration between innovators, incubators, and institutions such as TU Delft, supported by insights from Rabobank and the Utrecht University School of Economics.
Delft and the Westland region have once again been recognised as leaders in the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Index, underscoring our commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and innovation. This year’s index, published by Birch in collaboration with the Utrecht University School of Economics, highlights the strong relationship between a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem and the presence of innovative startups in our region.
However, as we celebrate this achievement, it is important to acknowledge the challenges that lie ahead. A recent report by Rabobank shows that regions like Greater Amsterdam and Brainport Eindhoven successfully combine productivity and sustainability. However, many other areas, such as Delft, face significant obstacles in achieving sustainable and inclusive growth. The report indicates that nearly 40% of regions in the Netherlands score below average, highlighting the need for continued efforts in both productivity enhancement and sustainability initiatives.
Nevertheless, Delft continues to play a crucial role in this success, serving as an innovative ecosystem for over 250 startups, scale-ups, companies, field labs, and research institutions. The combination of innovative companies, incubators, and co-working spaces creates an environment that promotes creativity and collaboration, leading to economic growth and technological advancement.
Kenneth Heijns, Director of the Innovation & Impact Centre, stated: “It is great that Delft-Westland is once again recognised as the strongest ecosystem for entrepreneurship in the Netherlands. It shows that long-term investment in knowledge, networks and cooperation works. At the same time, we see: standing still is not an option.
